I had a feeling that the adventure would have a profound effect on my life but more my personal life - not my painting. Back home in Norfolk I had built a good reputation for my beach scenes, not traditional watercolours but vibrant 'pop' - beach huts, windbreaks and deckchairs: strong colours and bold lines. Kenya exceeded all my expectations, the diversity was astounding from the blues and green of the Indian Ocean to the vivid orange and browns of cattle herded through the dusty African plains. Upon returning to Norfolk I could think of nothing else and upon picking up my paintbrush a new journey began.
